English version:

Paint Thief

From 1993 to 2000, I never bought spraypaint, for the circle of writers I was hanging around with it was unthinkable to pay to express themselves. I'm saying this to make those of you that are reading understand what the spirit of graffiti was for us that lived it in its golden years.
I imagine that, like all the beautiful things and like life itself, this spirit changes and loses its most beautiful part as time goes by.

For instance, I realize that if I want to write in a city like Milano, I must do it with stuff created expressly for writers. To tell you the truth, I at least feel much more comfortable with shitty spray paint and caps in my hand than with a Montana… In the old days I used whatever I managed to quickly rack up from the shelves of the shops, and I might have found myself using cans that reacted with one another and you never knew what the end result was going to be...

...however I didn't paint for the photo but simply for the emotions I got from being part of a team that worked for a single goal, that is the growth of the Name in the City.
I think that this stuff was infused in me mainly when I met my mentors, they always treated us as equals, and I remember when Joe and Tuff took me to bomb the insides of the subway with markers, they adopted the whistle used by the Roma Ultras at the stadium as a warning. They told me never to leave a friend in danger.

When I say that the values of graffiti writing helped me to be a man, it is because its values are universal. If I think about the bus competitions we used to have, when for 48 consecutive hours we challenged each other to see who could bomb more buses, and if I think about when I used to eat, shit and piss with Jon and I didn't have time to wash my hands because I was too busy winning this competition, I realize that the winner is not always the richest, or the one who has friends in high places or whatever...the winner is the one who gets down and gets busy. If you want a winning team, it has to be in symbiosis with everything.
